New Virtual Machine software for OS X, and it’s not Base Camp

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

Engadget has an interesting post on a piece of software called Parallels. It’s written for Intel-based Macs, and unlike Base Camp, which allows a user to run either OS X or Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac, but not both at the same time, Parallels is more of a virtual machine emulator, similar to Microsoft’s Virtual PC, allowing a user to run both OS X and Windows XP at the same time on an Intel-based Mac.

What’s nice about Parallels, unlike Virtual PC, is that there is no CPU virtualization. With Intel-based Macs, Parallels can run both OS X and other OS that is compiled to run on X86 chips, resulting in much better performance.
