Engadget has an interesting post on a piece of software called Parallels. It’s written for Intel-based Macs, and unlike Base Camp, which allows a user to run either OS X or Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac, but not both at the same time, Parallels is more of a virtual machine emulator, similar to Microsoft’s Virtual PC, allowing a user to run both OS X and Windows XP at the same time on an Intel-based Mac.
What’s nice about Parallels, unlike Virtual PC, is that there is no CPU virtualization. With Intel-based Macs, Parallels can run both OS X and other OS that is compiled to run on X86 chips, resulting in much better performance.

A great piece on The Onion about the City of Detroit being sold off for scrap. As someone born in the Motor City, it’s part of my birth right to help poke fun at our city. Where’s Coleman Young when you need him…

On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06.
That won’t ever happen again.
You may now return to your (normal?) life.

It’s time for Spring soccer.
I’m helping coach our second grader’s team and my wife and I are both coaching the kindergarten team.
It’s a typical early Spring here in Michigan, where some days are in the 40s, cloudy and generally suck out loud, whereas others are sunny and in the 60s.
Of course, the forecast for this Saturday is crap, cloudy, with temps in the 40s.
Go LadyBugs!

CLEAN | SPONTANEOUS | DARK Your humor’s mostly innocent and off-the-cuff, but somehow there’s something slightly menacing about you. Part of your humor is making people a little uncomfortable, even if the things you say aren’t themselves confrontational. You probably have a very dry delivery, or are seriously over-the-top. Your type is the most likely to appreciate a good insult and/or broken bone and/or very very fat person dancing. PEOPLE LIKE YOU: David Letterman - John Belushi

A story on Der Spiegel covers what scientists are calling the beginnings of a new ocean, at the earth’s surface!
Basically, a plate-shifting dance is taking place in Africa, just west of the Red Sea, with amazing speed. Scientists describe new fissures and cracks in the earth’s surface, with the venting of hot gasses; indications of volcanic activity, and the presence of Basalt magma, the same magma that’s vented from volcanic spots in the ocean depths.
Cool stuff.

I’m watching the Oscars tonight, as are many others.
Our oldest (she’s
is watching it with me for a bit.
Naomi Watts just walked out and my daughter says, “That is one weird dress. Especially the top.”
Maybe I can get her a gig on E! next year.
